Introduction to the Area
Matsumoto City, located in the center of Nagano Prefecture, is surrounded by the Japanese Alps and is the gateway to many splendid Shinshu tourist attractions including hot springs, traditional Japanese inns, and cultural facilities. Matsumoto City is also a town of music lovers and the location of the Saito Kinen Festival, which is conducted by world-famous maestro Seiji Ozawa. Matsumoto City boasts convenient access from Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya, allowing visitors the freedom to come and enjoy a range of famous tourist attractions such as Kamikochi, Hakuba, and Karuizawa. The city is the venue for the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympic Games. Matsumoto City’s sister cities include Salt Lake City in the U.S., Kathmandu in Nepal, and Grindelwald in Switzerland. Numerous international businesses such as Epson are located in Matsumoto City.
